Charitable Organizations

Friendship House, located at 620 Avenue B in Garland, is a ministry sponsored by First Baptist Church of Garland, in conjunction with local churches and community organizations.  It was organized in 1977 to help meet the physical needs of those who were out of work, physically disabled or low income for a variety of reasons and circumstances. For information, call 972-272-1010.

Good Samaritans, located at 214 North 12th Street in Garland, provides assistance to community members through utility assistance, rent assistance, and financial literacy training.  They are dedicated to the prevention of poverty, hunger, and homelessness in Garland, and to that end, they also maintain a well-stocked food pantry.  Call 972-276-2263 for information.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland, located at 1110 Main Street in Garland, is a non-profit organization organized in 1993.  As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, they partner with local individuals and organizations to provide safe, affordable, energy-efficient homes for qualified low-income families in the greater Garland area. Habitat homes are sold at no profit and mortgaged through zero-interest loans.

Mission Statement:  To love God and neighbor by working to eliminate poverty housing in the Greater Garland area, and worldwide through Habitat for Humanity International, by building and renovating decent, affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families where they can live and grow into all that God intends.

Hope Clinic provides primary health care services to residents who do not have health insurance and are not eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, Parkland Plus, or similar programs.  They also provide spiritual support, and assistance in finding community resources.  Their purpose is to reflect Christ's love to the under-served population in Garland.  The clinic is located at 808 W. Avenue A.  Call 972-485-9292 for information.

Jonathan's Place, located at 6065 Duck Creek in Garland is a non-profit organization that takes care of children who have suffered abuse.  It is an emergency shelter for abused, abandoned, and neglected children, serving as a temporary home for abused kids ages newborn - 17.  It is also a foster and adoptive family program which recruits, trains, and verifies foster and foster-to-adopt families.  Call 972-303-5503 for information.

Joseph Ministry Food Pantry at Abundant Life Church, located at 1717 Castle Drive in Garland provides food for those in need. This service is available to all qualified persons regardless of race, creed, or gender. Call 972- 272-8838 for information.

New Beginning Center serves over 400 victims of domestic violence in its emergency shelter each year.    For information, call 972-276-0423.

Salvation Army is located at 451 Avenue D in Garland and provides a variety of services and activities for the community.  Call 972-272-4531 for information.
