Graduations - Deans' Lists


Cassidy Elizabeth-Mae Brown of Rowlett was named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for the spring quarter 2010. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean's list.

 


 

Jordan Anderton, 2007 graduate of Naaman Forest High School, has been named to the Austin College dean's list for the 2010 spring semester.  All students named who received this honor earned a semester grade point average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale and are ranked in the top 20% of the student body.

Melissa Sue VanCak of Rowlett has graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Penn. She earned an A.B. in psychology and was one of 616 undergraduate students awarded degrees at the college's 175th commencement.


Melanie A. Maguire, a Garland High School graduate, was recently named a National Merit University of Oklahoma Scholarship recipient.  Founded in 1890, the University of Oklahoma is a doctoral degree-granting research university serving the educational, cultural, economic, and health care needs of the state, region, and nation.


Katherine Jiun Ly of Garland received a degree in computer security & info assurance from Norwich University at the May 16 commencement ceremony.


Caren M. Collins of Garland received a degree from Clark University on Sunday, May 23.  Collins graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in environmental science. She is a graduate of North Garland High School.


Julia Powers of Garland was recently named to the dean's list at the College of William and Mary for the spring 2010 semester. 

To achieve this honor, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 quality point average during the semester.


Jessica Marie Humphrey was named to the dean’s list at Western Carolina University for the spring 2010 semester.

To qualify for the dean’s list, students must achieve at least a 3.5 grade-point average out of a possible 4.0 on a regular semester’s work of not less than 12 hours, excluding remedial courses, with no grade of D or F.

To be eligible for this honor, a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours and maintain a grade point average of 4.0.


Corey Hyden of Garland graduated from the Tulane University Law School with a Juris Doctor degree.

Tulane's Unified Commencement was held on May 15, 2010 in the Louisiana Superdome. The ceremony featured keynote speaker Anderson Cooper.



University of North Texas

Paige Alyse Murry
of Garland received her Bachelors of Science degree in Education from the University of North Texas during commencement ceremonies on May 15, 2010.  

 

She will be teaching fourth grade math and science at a Garland Independent School District campus.

 

 

 


 

Loyola University
 

Leigh Erin Griffis from Rowlett received a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the College of Social Sciences.  New Orleans Saints quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees addressed the Class of 2010 during the university's unified commencement ceremony.


ETBU School of Natural and Social Sciences Honors Outstanding Students

The School of Natural and Social Sciences at East Texas Baptist University awarded year-end student awards for the 2009-2010 academic year during Honors Chapel held April 14, 2010.

Sachse native Mitch Barton was named Outstanding Psychology Student for the 2009-2010 academic year. He also was presented with the Outstanding Pre-Professional Senior Research Project award.

In addition, in a year-end ceremony held to honor  the outstanding students of the Fred M. Hale School of Business at East Texas Baptist University for the 2009-2010 academic year, the Florence Wood Quinn Achievement Award went to Zachary Spencer of Garland.

The Florence Wood Quinn Achievement Award is presented to the graduating business major who is a professed Christian, a citizen of the United States of America, has the highest overall grade point average among business majors, is recommended by the business school faculty, and has completed at least two years’ work at ETBU.

UT Tyler - December 2009

Jennifer E. Staub of Garland received a bachelor of arts degree in political science; Bogan Kajtaz of Garland received a bachelor of arts degree in health and kinesiology; and Shelby Lynn Frink, also of Garland, received a bachelor of science in nursing degree from UT Tyler during fall commencement ceremonies held Dec. 18 and 19, 2009.  741 degree candidates were recognized in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.


Harding University - December 2009

Travis Jordan of Garland was among more than 350 students who received diplomas at commencement exercises at Harding University on Dec. 19, 2009. Jordan received a bachelor of business administration degree in management.

East Texas Baptist University - December 2009

Tanner Lee Rohne of Garland received a bachelor of science in education-all level kinesiology during commencement ceremonies on Dec. 19, 2009.  ETBU presented 69 degrees during the commencement ceremonies and has awarded 8,579 degrees in its history.

Texas State University, San Marcos - December 2009

Tara N. Gaffaney of Garland received a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science; and Abigail Torres, also of Garland, received a bachelor's degree in agriculture-animal science during the spring commencement ceremonies at the university.

Cassandra Franklin of Garland was named to the Dean's List at New York’s LIM College for the fall, 2009 semester.

To achieve this honor, students must earn a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.79.

Jacqueline R. Querubin of Garland was named to the Dean's List at Boston University for the fall semester.
